Vango Banshee 200 Tent - Our Opinion

This doesn't really fall into our definition of lightweight at over 2kg but it's not bad. It's still pretty light if you are using it as a two person tent.

Don't, however, use it as a two person tent.

Me and my mate Nix squeezed into it in my back garden to see what it would be like and the two minutes we were in there was enough, even though I've known him since he was seven. We're both 6'2" so if you're smaller with an even smaller friend you might be ok.

Anyway, we all know when a tent says 200 it's a one person tent.

Now for some good news.

This is a very good tent and takes less than 10 minutes to pitch even when it's windy. It's a sort of tunnel tent with the door at the size, so access his easy even for big lumps like us. (The new version of this tent has a door on each side so this makes it a little better as a two person tent, but there's still only one porch) The inner tent is attached to the flysheet and the poles are colour coded with the sleeves so you shouldn't have any problems pitching.

This is Nix's tent not mine but we swapped last year somewhere up near Angle Tarn just so I could test it out. It was a pretty windy one but the tent stayed stable throughout the night. There was some flapping near the vents but that was to be expected on a night like that. I like the Vango TBS (Tension Band System) it stops the poles moving and the tent feels more stable if the wind is coming in from the side.

The porch was great for one rucksack, boots and a stove. You can cook in it in the rain if you pitch the tent with the wind behind you. The head room isn't that amazing but it's a hiking tent so you're really only sleeping in there and not playing Monopoly.

I never experienced any condensation although like I said it was a windy night and there was plenty of air coming through the vents. There's vents at either side and in the flysheet door so I'm sure there's enough there to prevent too much condensation.

The Vango Banshee 200 is a good hiking tent at a good price.
We don't stock this tent, but if you'd like to buy it here's a few options:
